Field Trip

On Tuesday, Jessi's first grade class had a field trip to...Angels Stadium!

It was for community studies (r..i..i...i..i..i..ght) and they got to tour some choice places in the stadium. We heard we were going to see the Angels locker room....but it was the visitors locker room. Interesting still, knowing we stood where the Cubs, White Sox, Mets, Yankees and Red Sox have stood at some point. I really tried to get a photo of the bathroom area they use....it looked huge, and I wanted to see if there were hot tubs or other weird bathroom things. Hey....I wasn't trying to be gross....just curious. Maybe they wouldn't let us back there because it was dirty....eeewwww!

We did get to go into the Angels dugout. It was neat to see a dugout's point of view of the field. Imagining what it would be like on game day and seeing all those filled seats and stepping out onto the field to the hum of the crowd seems like it would be a powerful experience. Or annoying if you prefer the quiet. But what an ego boost non-the-less!

We got to see the batting cage where injured players go to rehab before they come back to play. Interesting to know there's dual paned glass...so the palyer doesn't get disstracted by watchers. Because right across from the batting box are the $4,ooo a game suites. Corporations pay $250,000 a year to have one. This means the sponsors....FedEx, Heineken, Carl's Jr., etc..

I thought these were like hotel rooms (suites) until I came home and James explained it to me. What a dork!

Then we got to see the press area above the dugout. Perfect view from homeplate. They had their own eatery up there. And the owner of the team had his own room for viewing...he had a mahogany double door with 3D A's on them. fancy

After that was a trip to the area where contracts are signed and TV cameras do interviews. All the kids got a team sticker. (woo hoo)

We also saw the trophy case (they were cleaning it as we viewed it) that held the 2002 world series trophy, and the ring. And some bat and ball set made by Waterford Crystal that cost about $25,000. la dee da. Amazing what these teams are given and what the players make.....priorities in this world.....don't get me started.

The tour was ok.......and I say ok because I'm not into baseball.......but I have to admit it was neat to be "behind the scenes" and hear snipets of the stadium. I made sure I took all kinds of pictures because James couldn't go and I didn't want to hear any guff about it! So out of the 104 pictures I did take, here are what I'll share without boring you.....
