Endo update

One thing's for sure.....an 8:30 a.m. visit sure makes for a disruptive routine around here!

After struggling to wake Jessi up, we dropped off Ashlee at school (who complained the WHOLE morning once she found out we all were taking her to school because her little sister was going to make her late) and got to the appointment on time. The nice thing was, we were the first ones to be seen by the Dr..

She weighs 80 pounds and is 4 foot 6 inches. She's right in the average curve for a kid her age. Funny how handing the pre-printed pump info for the last month can make the nurse smile like there's no tomorrow. There are about 10 pumpers in the Dr.'s care and only 2 others pre-print info, so it makes things go a little faster and smoother.

Dr. comes in and after the pleasantries, we dissect the odd numbers and their causes and then talk about the bleeder we had Monday when we pulled out the site for a change. Thank goodness for all my blogger friends who post about their experiences, because remembering those sure came in handy that night when we handled that bleeder......so thank you for sharing!
After that, I was congratulated on doing a great job, and so was Jes. She just needs to lay off the pinkie checks and use the left hand more often for checks. Sites look good and healing well, although suggestions for moving out of the usual comfort zone for sites wasn't too well received. (never is)

Flu shots were discussed, we're going with the normal one for now and not too sure about the H1N1 yet. He told us to wait a few weeks and see what goes on reguarding the vaccine before we decide. Truth be told, we're skipping it. We hardly ever get sick and the Flu shot never messes with us, so we're good to go. Maybe to some that's a bad decision, but ours to own.

So we skated outta there and we get to go back again in January. Wow. January? Really? Ok.

Oh yeah, no blood draw either. No A1C to report. Kinda sucks because I (sorta) wanted to know if we still were in the 8's or not. But he would have ordered it if he felt we needed it this time, but he kept commenting on how great things were looking and he was glad I was confident enough to adjust the pump settings if need be. So come January we'll definately get it done. We'll probably have the Thyroid screening and also Celiac screening (she's NEVER had one) and get the A1C then. We figure the less we have to prod at her, the better. So she dodged this one, but not next time.

Then it was back to school........with a little resistance, but out 'cha go!

Does anyone else's child hate these appointments and disreguard the Dr.? She's not disrespectful, but not even interested in having a conversation with him.....even when he engages her, she barely speaks. (i know, my kid not speak!) She was this way with the female Dr. before him, so I think it's an "I hate diabetes" thing. I keep telling her he's not the enemy, he's helping, but it's just another reminder of what she goes through so she probably shuts down because she hates it. Afterwards she's fine.

That was our wonderful visit today. Not too exciting, but over for now. Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy to hear your appt went well :)

Addy is still young enough to talk to anyone who glances in her direction...we call her "Chatty Addy".

Keep up the GREAT work!

Good to hear you had a good appointment. I don't know about you, but I would go NUTS without knowing the A1C, but that's me!!!

At first, Cale really didn't talk to the doctor, he just screwed around. But now, I make him answer most of the questions. We have a talk before going in and I tell him he has to sit and listen to Dr. C (and since he is from Puerto Rico...you REALLY have to listen) and to answer everything he asks. I also make him answer all of the nurses questions. Of course, I have my input where he cannot answer, but, even though I always say our appointment, it is his and I make him get involved. He gets kinda shy once in awhile, but he opens up.

Sadly, there will be a day when I won't be in the room and I am totally dreading it!! Can you say CONTROL FREAK!!!!!

Really nice to meet you! I look forward to getting to know you. :) Bravo on the easy appt! You get a gold star for that one...but no A1C? That is pretty much the only reason I go. It's just a finger prick at our office, and five minutes later...Bam! A1C announcements.

SO glad to hear that your daughter is doing so well! :) No worries though on the not talking to dr. thing...my boys are the same way. The doctor asks them questions and one pretends he doesn't hear, the other mumbles something and the thrid changes the subject. They are just now becoming more engaged in the conversation...but it's been a long time coming.

I would like to add you to my blog list, if that is ok with you. I'm glad you found me!

Thanks for your comment. I went to a couple support meetings in the beginning, and they were WAY too anger oriented. That was a long long time ago though. I agree, this blogging community is more support oriented...love it!
