This doggie disappeared on us Sunday morning. James went out to feed the dogs and this one never showed up to twirl in circles for her food. So he yelled for her and there was no answer. Low and behold there was a hole under the chain link fence between us and our neighbors. No surprise, this is the same hole that was dug on Wednesday and she went under and lost her collar over there. I knew I should have blocked it off better.
So I get woken up at 9 am-----hey, I like sleeping in------and was told Marble is gone. I get up, go to the fence, yell her name......nothing. I look around through the fence........nothing. Usually they come with ears back and get under to our side and get the crap smacked out of them when they come out. No smacking that day. Where is she and how the heck did she get out of their yard?!? They've been over there dozens of times (can you tell we need to dog proof all escape routes) and never got out of their yard.
So fear sets in........did something happen to her? Was she malled and thrown in the trash? Nah, she's too big. Would they really do that? (I'll take the 5th) Well, they came home and let me in their yard to look.......no use, I see where she got out near the horse trail in back. Luckily there's no collar laying around, so she's wearing it...hopefully. My dog is gone.
I get in the car and go looking throught the neighborhood. Yelling out the windows like a banshee. Talking to any peolple I saw. "Excuse me, have you seen a dog running around? She's a shepard mix, brindle color?" No's all around. So between James and I, we scoped out a mile radius around the house and surrounding neighborhoods. Looked until 3 pm. Then we told the girls. Ashlee had slept over at her cousins and Jessi was on the computer and watching TV all day, so it was easy to keep quiet about it until we knew for sure that she was gone.
They took it pretty well. Hmmmm..............what if I disappear.........
So, we made signs and put up about 10 all around our area right before dark and went to bed that night sick to our stomaches. Monday's a holiday and the Humane Society's closed so we'll have to wait until Tuesday to see if she got picked up. Pain in the butt as they are, your mind wanders about what might be happening to them. Brownie's laying around the yard like her best pal died.
Yesturday morning at 8 am the phone rang and some lady said she found my dog! Marble was either in or near a major intersection and was getting beeped at while cars were wizzing by and this lady pulled over and called her and the dog ran to her. She brought the dog to her work and called me. She works right around the corner and it took me all of 3 minutes to get there. Nicest lady you could meet. We talked for a little bit then I took Marble home. Later on the girls and I stopped by her work and gave her a handmade thank you card and Chili's gift card for her kindness.
Talk about an emotional weekend! Oh, later last night dufus and dufus #2 dug under the fence again and this time fatty Brownie couldn't get back under so we had to dig down for her. But too bad they couldn't get out.........we zip-tied chicken wire to the fence in the horse trail so there'll be no more escaping. Now to bury the cinder blocks..........damn dogs.
